Teamwork and Communication: Why is it important to me?

Teamwork and communication are both very familiar words to me. They may seem to have simple definitions but it takes a lot more effort to carry them out successfully. In our world today, I feel that no one person can work alone because in one way or another we are all inter dependant. In that case, I know that both teamwork and communication are important for me.

There are many instances where teamwork and communication play key roles in my life. For example, in college I am involved in many group projects and I feel that it’s during these times where both teamwork and communication play more significant roles.

It is one thing to create a team but quite another thing to create teamwork. Teamwork enables team members to reach their common goals. Without unity in the team it will be very difficult to progress and meet deadlines. When we work cohesively with our members it will help us maximise our strengths and produce greater results.

Effective communication is also equally important because, when we want to put forth our ideas or views to others, we need to make sure we communicate our thoughts correctly. If our audience do not completely understand what we want to convey there are high chances of our message being taken the wrong way which will result in undesired consequences. Thus we need to be careful with our choice of words when we deliver our thoughts.

When we put effective, teamwork and communication together we will definitely be able to reach our goals within a shorter span of time. Therefore, they encourage productivity which is a very important skill. In conclusion we can see why both teamwork and communication play vital roles in our lives.

  1. I feel you've mentioned that teamwork and communication are both important to you quite a lot of times, especially at the start of the post. Try avoiding conveying the same meaning over and over again even though they may be in different forms. It makes things a little 'uninteresting'. But apart from that, it's well written. I like the line - It is one thing to create a team but quite another thing to create teamwork. :)

  2. Hi Preeti,

I like the point when you mentioned "It is one thing to create a team but quite another thing to create teamwork". I think many assumed when they categorized themselves as a team, teamwork will exist within them as it is something associated with it. Effective communication is a vital aspect in teamwork. It is only through this when individuals will be able to be rely and trust each other.
Besides verbal communication, i think effective communications involves understanding of body gestures as well. People tend to exhibit different body reactions whenever they experience an emotion they feel strongly about.

Anyway this blog is well paragraphed and perhaps a picture could be added?

    Regards,
    Alden

  3. Hi Preeti,

I think by blogging about your life experience, it further accentuates the fundamental importance of the two qualities inherent in a good team. Like what Alden said, the first sentence of your third paragraph makes every sense to me as many tend to have the false impression that a good team is formed merely by grouping elites together. Personally, I feel that a team of ordinary team players is of more worth than a team of individualistic elites.

Effective communication is certainly as important as mentioned in your third paragraph.
After all, communication is like a double-edged sword. If we use it appropriately, it can accomplish great tasks but if we lack the skills, we can hurt people's feelings unknowingly.

Last but not least, i certainly like your post and it gives me a personal feel to it!

  4. Hi, I like the point that you mentioned that if the message is misunderstood, it would bring about undesired consequences.

Miscommunication can result in conflicts. This makes a team work less efficiently and become less productive. By highlighting this, your entry illustrates clearly that communication is the foundation of an effective team.

    Well done!
